Hi again! I hope you’ve been doing well.
Thanks to my sister, I’ve came across a very talented band
a few months ago. She was constantly praising their lyrics and it got me interested.
The song I’m about to introduce was written and produced by the Korean indie
band The Rose. Through expressional melodies, the group interpret emotional themes
such as loneliness, life hardships, regrets, depression, and self-love. The
lyrics are delivered by the two singers’ vivid and soft voices. The main singer
and leader of the group, Woosung, has a distinctly unique voice that gives life
to each song.

My opinion
I believe the song handles a very delicate subject with authenticity. The various metaphors convey the message in a poetic way. The narrator’s buried feelings are reflected through his environment, which I find very effective for expressional purposes. In the first verse, his day is described as "gloomy" and "covered in gray fog". These details suppose that he's in a bad mood and that he's feeling lost. Also, a few symptoms of depression are mentioned through the lyrics. For example, the narrator acknowledges that he's "lost interest in everything" and that he's "dying inside". Similar indications can be found in his description of the second character. For example, the narrator says he can see the emptiness in her eyes.

These similarities reinforce the links between the
two of them, as if the man could really see himself in the woman. Finally, the
extended metaphor using the rain is very insightful. In the song, being
"in the rain" seems to refer to "struggling". The title and
the refrain emphasize the pain the woman is going through. However, the last
refrain is different. The "she" becomes "we", just as if
the narrator joins her in her fight.
Question
In the song, the narrator appreciates the beauty of the other character. What is the thing that stops when he looks at her?
Hello, I will be commenting your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, as mentioned by the lyrics sang by the narrator ‘’when I look at how beautiful you are time stops”. Therefore, time is the thing that stops when he looks at her; how adorable and beautiful is that statement?
ReplyDeleteAfter listening to the expressive source you provided, the English translated lyrics video, I would have to agree with your opinion about the delicate subject the song portrays. The different metaphors and expressions poetically describe depression. For example, “even if I shout, there’s still no answer” and “a flood of loneliness”, are both lyrics that show signs of despair and show that the narrator feels alone in the struggles he is going through. Also, there is also a more obvious lyric that is sang by The Rose regarding both the narrator and the girl : “I’m(She’s) dying inside, I(She) wanna(wants to) think that it’s a lie”. This song is, in my opinion, a truly beautiful way of addressing mental health issues and how it affects one’s life!
Oh! And I won’t start on how amazing I think the transition to the last chorus is! The fact that the narrator comforts the girl before changing the pronouns used to “we” … It’s as if he wants to show her that he really is there for her! Such an amazing song and group!
